Arooj Aftab
Listed by NPR as one of the Top 100 Young Composers of today, Pakistani singer Arooj Aftab breaks free from music traditions, working at the intersection of Sufi, Pakistani folk, jazz fusion and semi-classical. Inspired by the work of Sufi poets and musicians that came before her, the Brooklyn-based, Berkeley-trained musician searches for the same feelings Sufi poetry often inspires; ‘peace, patience, simplicity’. Her latest record, this year’s ‘Vulture Prince’, garnered high praise from Pitchfork, Songlines and others.

Sons Of Kemet
Led by celebrated saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer Shabaka Hutchings, Sons of Kemet is a U.K. based modern jazz supergroup comprised of musicians from across the globe, shortlisted for the 2018 Mercury Prize. Their sound combines modal and free jazz, African rhythms and modes, and Caribbean dub and Middle Eastern timbres. This year they returned with a brand new album, ‘ Black To The Future’, the band’s most dynamic project yet, featuring prominent vocalists including Angel Bat Dawid, poets Moor Mother and Joshua Idehen, and grime artist D Double E. The first single “Hustle” features Kojey Radical with backing vocals from singer Lianne La Havas and is out today with a dance-inspired metaphorical video directed by Ashleigh Jadee.
