Jockstrap is paving the way in the British music scene, fusing their classic background with distorted electronic sounds and original writing that plays out in a new disruptive form of pop.

Steve Goodman, or Kode9, is perhaps best known as the boss of Hyperdub. After being part of South London’s vital dubstep scene in the naughts, he released two collaborative LPs with late MC The Spaceape, and more recently released his first solo LP, Nothing. With a PhD in philosophy from the University of Warwick, Goodman has always been attuned to the extra-musical implications of sound, authoring the influential Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear. Kode9’s expansive approach to music is evident in his approach to curation, which has always defined Hyperdub as a standout label. With an affinity for unknown, hybrid sounds, Goodman is responsible for furthering many mutant strains of bass music, including one known as “sinogrime.” Hyperdub is, of course, home of the singular sounds of Burial, Laurel Halo, DJ Rashad, and Fatima Al Qadiri. They also host the young yet famed night Ø at London’s Corsica Studios, curated by Kode9 and Shannen SP.

Warp Records recently published the new record of the musician, producer and composer Nala Sinephro. Titled ‘Space 1.8’, the record already represents a landmark for the ambient jazz scene: a deeply personal album, strongly showcasing the strong vision of its author.

Steven Umoh, aka, Obongjayar: raised in Nigeria, he uses his music as a tool to reflect on his own identity: a way to contemplate his present and to celebrate black selfhood through works that originate from Afrobeat and soul.

Pa Salieu is a majestic flow talent, author of a very personal stylistic code between dancehall and grime, who collaborated with artists such as fka Twigs e BackRoad Gee. “Frontline” was the most played track by Radio BBC 1Xtra in 2020.

artist working on a different range of music genres,
from industrial to dub, from free rock to extreme
electronic.

Two Shell are an interesting name in the British scene, whose music is heavily influenced by the late 90’s South London underground sounds and the contemporary Bristol scene.
