Nicolas Jaar was born in New York in 1990 but quickly relocated to Santiago de Chile, only to come back to his birth place as a teenager. Haunted by Mulatu Astatke and Erik Satie, Nico started to make organic electronic music at the age of 14.
He released his debut album “Space Is Only Noise” in 2011 to critical acclaim, before founding his own record label Other People and working on Darkside, Jaar’s project with longtime collaborator Dave Harrington, who released “Psychic” in 2013.
Jaar’s music is ruminative and emotional and it keeps on staying outside any common genre definition. “Sirens” (2016) confirms Jaar as a key player of this decade’s electronic music scene, with a unique mix of synthetic sounds, jazz, classical and psychedelia that describes the fragility of democracy by revisiting Jaar’s family history.
