Kamasi Washington

US / Brainfeeder - Young Turks

Thanks to the prodigious album "The Epic" and prestigious collaborations with the likes of Kendrick Lamar and Flying Lotus, the 36-year-old LA sax player, composer and bandleader Kamasi Washington has become one of the most beloved musicians in the world and the one that symbolizes more than any the new generations' newly found interest in jazz.

His band The Next Step is a modern spin on a big band, including two drummers, two upright bass players, keyboard players, three horns players, a pianist, and a vocalist, chosen among the most respected musicians in the Los Angeles jazz scene.

His first album “The Epic”, released in May 2015 on Brainfeeder, debuted at number 1 in the iTunes jazz charts of several countries, including the US, Canada, Australia, Russia, and UK, and was included in the lists of the best albums of 2015 by influential magazines such as Pitchfork, The Wire, Guardian and Rolling Stone. In the spring of 2017 Kamasi announced his new EP “Harmony Of Difference” for Young Turks, anticipated by “Truth”, a track which takes on the energy of “The Epic” to respond to the current climate of intolerance and racial tension with a gospel celebration of the beauty of diversity.
